Khalil Gibran est né en 1883 à Bécharré, dans le nord de l’actuel Liban, sous l’Empire ottoman. Il est décédé à New York, en 1931. Poète d’expression arabe et anglaise, il a été également un artiste peintre prolifique.

Le présent recueil regroupe les quatre premiers ouvrages que le poète publia en langue anglaise : Le Fol (1918), Le Précurseur (1920), Le Prophète (1923), Le Sable et l’Écume (1926), mais aussi de nombreux aphorismes et poèmes inédits.

Khalil Gibran was born in 1883 in Bécharré, in the north of present-day Lebanon, under the Ottoman Empire. He died in New York in 1931. An Arabic and English-speaking poet, he was also a prolific painter.

This collection brings together the first four works that the poet published in English: The Fol (1918), The Precursor (1920), The Prophet (1923), Sand and Foam (1926), but also numerous unpublished aphorisms and poems.
